The Green man
Luds Church, a dramatic fissure in the rock, sits shrouded in mystery between the Roaches and the River Dane.
Many scholars believe it to be the green chapel written about in the Arthurian legend of “Sir Gwain and the Green Knight”,
The green knight in the book is believed to represent the green man and indeed it is a story of death and rebirth so often associated with him
It is said in the right light that his face can be seen in the rock formation of the tallest walls.
I confess to a slight obsession with the green man and this is one of my many paintings of him.
